Hi,
I had fumes in = my 1980 Vanagon when I bought it.  After a few months I traced it to the = fire extinguisher the PO had mounted behind the passenger seat.  The = holes he drilled had gone right into the expansion tank!  At least the fire extinguisher was handy to the direct vent from the fuel tank into the = cabin of the bus.  As you can imagine, I was afraid to light the = stove!

Subject: still = getting gas fumes

Hey team,

I ended up getting a new fuel tank after finding the old one = beyond repair.  Now, I still get fumes in the cabin but only when the = window is open.  Any suggestions?  Here are the parts already replaced:

251-201-166       breather pipe
211-611-833-D    grommet
113-919-131-A    gasket
251-201-139-B    filler seal
plus of course the fuel tank, clips, and ties.

I don't do the work myself, but try to keep myself informed at = the garage.  Thanks for any suggestions.
