Lloyd,
my '85 gives me the same symptoms after interstate
travel....I'm still trying to figure out the exact problem this time =
around, but
in the past it has been a compression leak into the cooling system =
either from a
bad head gasket(the metal ones on top of the barrels) or a cracked
head.
Before panicing though, check the main coolant =
tank. If
the level is topped up and no hissing comes out when you open it cold =
you are
probably OK and somehow just overfilled. If you hear lots of =
gurgling and
hissing as you open it cold you could have a compression leak that has =
charged
the cooling system with air and displaced coolant.

Hi
My 83 Westy was stored for the =
winter. In
april I noticed that the overflow tank appeared empty so I added =
some.
This past weekend I took it out and headed for North Conway NH. =
When I
returned home after the 300 mile trip the overflow tank was completely =
full
and coolant was coming out of the top of it. At the time I was =
parked on
a slight uphill incline. The temperature gauge was normal and =
the engine
did not appear to be overheated. Does anyone know what the =
problem might
be?
Many thanks, Lloyd
