most of the time the oil light coming = on is due to using the wrong filter and/or viscosity of oil.... (should be using = 20-50 oil and Mahle/Mann or VW supplied filter) ... on the other hand it could be something more serious... you won't know unless you change the filter an = oil... and even then there are a couple of minor things it could be... oil = pressure sensor bad, wiring bad, oil pressure unit in the instrument panel... but = oil & filter is the most likely...
