Track down a Snap-on man or even try the local parts store.  There are tools
made especially for dealing with spring clamps.  Or if you're a tool fanatic,
check out toolsource.com.  They have a listing for a hose clamp pliers in
their recent catalog that have a 'remote' head that looks like it could be
very useful in tight spaces.  The part number is 28650.  It is expensive, but
has a lifetime warrranty, and most things are expensive these days.  I don't
have any experience with toolsource or these pliers, I just saw them in the
catalog.
