Thanks to everyone who has responded to my dilemma (quoted below). I'm trying to sort through the sometimes conflicting advice to figure out where I should go from here.

Does anyone happen to have had any experience with Ken Kettell of Autoworks Performance in Mount Kisco NY? He's the guy selling the vehicle.

Hi there all,



I'm currently in the process of buying a 1987 vanagon that I found

through the pennysaver.  It's being sold by a machanic who seems like a

nice guy.  He says it's in great shape and from all appearances it's in

great shape.  However, the odometer reads just under 85,000 miles and

running a check on the VIN at carfax.com shows that during inspection as

of 1/18/2000 it had 113,619 miles on it.



Naturally I am feeling a bit wary.  If anyone has any advice to share it

will be greatly appreciated.  Also, if anyone knows of a good VW guy I

could take it to who is not far from Mount Kisco NY, that would probably

come in handy as well.



If you could reply to me as well as the list, that would be great since

I'm not sure I'm getting messages from the list (I subscribed but so far

have received nothing).
