You should hear a bit of a hum if you are right next to it.  If you = hear it while the engine is running at a stop light there is a problem coming... = especially if it is really noticeable.  I have in the past changed = the fuel filter and things improved slightly as the pump doesn't have to "suck" = as hard. 
 
I would look into it sooner than later as I have know a few people who = have been stranded at that red light when the pump did pack it = in!
