O, Pioneers!
Happy New Year, and congratulations! You're =
an
Internet
pioneer. You made it online by the millennium, 2001. OK, =
so
we
all know about the calendar thing, but if it really
doesn't matter =
which
millennium is the "real" one today,
who's going to care in the =
future? Either
way, you're a
leader. In the future, people will tend to forget that
the
Internet, the World Wide Web and the cyberrevolution began
in =
the late
20th century -- just like they tend to forget
that people were =
driving cars
in the late 19th century.
Automobiles are a 20th-century technology, =
and the
Internet
will be remembered as a 21st-century technology. Most =
of
the
world isn't online yet, but it's coming, and in a big
way. And if =
you're
reading this, you can go down in history
as a cyber-pioneer. If you =
drove a
Benz or a Duryea back in
1898, you were ahead of your time and ahead =
of the
curve.
In the future, it won't matter if you were online in =
1989
or Dec.
31, 2000 -- you were there!
