I recently pulled the left head from my 86 vanagon.
There was some corrosion on the head surface where it
comes in contact with the gasket.  Other than the
leak, it was running great.  Has anyone ever used JB
Weld to fill in the pits on the head surface?  I know
this isn't as good as a new head, but it's an old,
high miles engine, and I was hoping to suck some more
life out of this head.

of course, JB Weld is the vanagon owner's best friend :<)
its a great substitute for a new head. if yours isnt cracked, go for it.
