When Volkswagen AG tests =
a vehicle idea on Detroiters, exciting things can happen. Take the =
Beetle, which debuted as a concept in Detroit in 1994. Four years =
later, it hit the roads as one of the most talked-about vehicles of the =
1990s.
=
Now, VW offers show-goers its interpretation of the pickup truck. =
Called the Advanced Activity Concept, or AAC, the sport-utility-pickup =
concept features the distinctive VW curves found in the Beetle, Jetta =
and Passat without compromising the rugged truck look.

=
The AAC is a luxury sedan up front with a pickup bed attached to the =
back.
=
As a concept vehicle, it sports a 313-horsepower, V10 diesel =
engine.
=
Interior features include lots of brushed aluminum, a six-speed =
automatic transmission with a Tiptronic manual-shift mode and a =
cold-store box in the console to keep beverages chilled.
=
VW folks aren't saying when an adaptation of this vehicle could hit =
the U.S. market. But car buyers could see a lot of the AAC's design =
elements in a new 2002 VW sport-utility under development with Porsche =
AG, VW officials said.
