hey all,
i have a coolant leak that only occurs when van is running.  it seems to be
coming from where the oil cooler meets the block.  is this possible if the
oil cooler is not torqued all the way tight?  wouldn't it be leaking oil
also?  where else could this leak be coming from b/c it is hard to get a
good view?  maybe h20 pump?  all hoses are in tact, i am perplexed.
thanks

If the cooler was loose then you would be leaking oil only.  Either you have:
1. A leaking hose (there are two small hoses right on the cooler. (cheap and
I have them in stock)
2. A leaky waterpump (drip hole in bottom of pump and could be running down
on cooler)- $50 VW
3. External leak in cooler (possible but I have never heard of this before).
$90 VW.

The only real way to see what is going on is to get under there and look
around with a flashlight.  Maybe have the van up on ramps and running to see
if you can actually trace the drip back to where it starts.
