AH case in point! The wifely unit LIKED her vanagon., but had gotten "up" in
the world and thought she needed a "better" car. As we've always had Land
Rover products she went and bought a Discovery...
"But Dear, I don't know ANYTHING about them (not really true but not like I
know the vans, ya know?)
So at 70K the transmission went up....
"You know how to rebuild transmissions!"
"Yes, honey, I do..but you asking me to rebuild a ZF tranny is like ME asking
YOU to have a baby!"
Knowing the general idea vs. having the tools and parts and resources to hand
are not the same thing.

Knowing the type and being tooled up for it DO make a world of difference.
When it comes to cars? "Pick One" and keep after it.
My fleet is always going to have a Vanagon they are just so darn usefull
Oh...and I DID rebuild the LR tranny....I'd rather do 5 waterboxer engines
all at once than to do THAT again!
