Try wiring your inverter directly to your battery.  I'm in the process= of wiring an inverter to an auxilary battery, and have installed and electr= ical box with outlets in the top wall of the cabinets over the water tank, b= etween the two doors.  This gives me two outlets instead of  the o= ne on the inverter, and the inverter is stashed in the cabinet over the wate= r tank, with its outlet available if I need it.

Clarification: I meant without using batteries in the radio/tape/cd
boom-box. In other words, just like plugging it into the wall socket
at home. The power inverter uses the battery power of the vehicle and
converts it into ac power with a regular socket.
