CA testing has two tests - assuming that you get the 'standard' smog test. Every year a small percentage of what CA thinks are 'high polluters' get randomly selected to have a dynamometer test which is more rigorous.

Anyway, the standards for the standard smog are (This is for a 1988 vanagon - standards vary by year of manufacturer)

2500 RPM test maximum allowable:

HC PPM    180
CO %        1.0

Idle RPM maximum allowable

HC PPM    120
CO %        1.0

Need a 2 13 mm wrenches or one with a 13 mm socket, screw driver, allen
wrench, tube cutter (If you want I can cut the push rods for you, send them
to me...) snap ring pliers, and an afternoon.

If you have the chip and the rest is in good shape, should pass.

Add an adjustable pressure regulator and just turn it down a few psi for the
test.

Mine with the Chip, rockers, mild porting and other changes passed my local
emissions test.

What are the requirements for CA testing?
