Hmm,
Subaru engine...
2
timing belts that are known to go before their time, leaky heads =
(Yes!
Believe it or not!), expensive to repair, switching parts suppliers, my =
VW
mechanic will not touch it, many mechanics refuse to work on =
conversions, you
get reduced ground clearance, you end up with a red-headed step-child of =
a
Vanagon and, most importantly, you bastardize a COLLECTIBLE
VEHICLE.
A lot
of the Subaru conversion owners will not admit on this list that Subaru =
engines
actually DO BREAK DOWN. Wow, imagine that. Give me a few =
days and I
will come up with a list of ALL THE THINGS THE SUBARU CONVERTEES DO NOT =
WANT YOU
TO KNOW, but instead keep talking about the POWER AND GAS MILEAGE just =
to
impress you. Some people get mesmerized by all this hoopla and =
actually
put a Subaru engine in a Syncro? Jeez, they DON'T MAKE THEM ANY
MORE!
With
the money spent on a Subaru conversion I can fix all the over-hyped =
leaky
problems and end up with an original VW engine that is more than a match =
for the Subaru (He, he, I know Robert Lilley is listening). =
Besides,
if I choose to convert, the inline-4 VW motor is the logical choice, not =
the
Subaru.
My
'waterpisser,' as you put it, has 140K on original heads and they do not =
leak. I I know of many more cases like mine, with some =
Vanagons with
over 160 K miles without any leaky heads.
People, listen. I'll take all those =
waterpissers
off your hands now! Ship them to me right =
away!

Why on earth would I want to put a Subaru engine in my =
Vanagon?
I can have
everything it offers, and so much more, by =
using VW
parts.
It's a rhetorical question. No =
need to
answer.
why? hmmm =
reliability?
what does the leaky vw wasserpisser offer?
headaches and a empty wallet...and so much more =
(headaches)
:<)
it is rhetorical.. the subaru engine is =
a
smarter choice.. if you can do
the conversion, its =
well worth
it. no need to answer :<)
