This is my first = post. Been silently reading for about nine months now. Don't know if this will = help but, Mom and Dad own a '86 Weekender with the same problem. = I thought it might be an ignition switch with a dead spot (had a '82 = scirocco that did and made the starter hesitate). Dad replaced the main battery = and then the auxiliary battery both with automotive batteries (VW dealer = recommended replacing auxiliary battery with regular automotive battery). I recommended a deep cycle battery per the list. But anyway after = replacing auxiliary battery, a few days after the main, no more hesitation. =
