Been there!!!  I solved my problem with a switch that turned the f= uel pump off when I started the vehicle then turned it on when it started= . I worked but was clearly not the root of the problem.  The solutio= n in my case was one injector with an internal short.  It screw= s the whole system.  Easy to check with ohm meter there shoul be no = continuity between plug of injector and the body of the injector che= ck for this.  If there is then you must replace injector.  Also= clean all connections that are associated with FI system. This= was my solution and I haven't pushed my 84 in years.

Subject: Why do I smell gas?
 <= /DIV>Hi folks,

My hot start problem is out of control!  It us= ed to be that it would
only not start some of the time, now it's all o= f the time - so on my
trip home from New Mexico, I couldn't turn off t= he engine to refuel
during the entire 10 hours.  I've replaced th= e fuel pump and checked
all the electric stuffs.  When I crank it= , I smell gas and if I
"slowly press the accelerator" (as it says in t= he manual), I get a
nice blast of gas fumes - could my injectors be le= aking and flooding
the engine?  It takes about 30 minutes of sitt= ing around before it
starts again - which is nice because it's just en= ough time to make
some tea and play a few games of solitaire - but thi= s is getting a
little frustrating.

Thanks!
Alan
