Yes it's true, the head transplant went as well as can be expected.
It took 2 trips to Sears to get the "O" rings, #18 on the big
end of the pushrod tube and a #27 on the small end. The amazing
part is that they seal just fine without a pound of goo in each
tube. It looks like a new engine seal is the next purchase for the
TURD since the old one is barely functional if not ready to fall out all
together.
The best part was finally getting it started, getting in her and zipping
down the road. Yes, zipping is the right term. The engine
needed to get one of the lifters pumped back up after being parked for so
long, but by the time she made it to the end of the block the tapping was
gone, and the power was way up there. It's amazing what an extra
cylinder will do for total engine output.
Next on the agenda is a cleaning of the interior, finding out just what
smells so bad in the cabinet, and a good wash and wax.
Now if I could just lift my arms...
