Matt,

I once bought a 91 jetta diesel that = had a coolant hose burst. The PO put on a head gasket but still no compression. The = rings were stuck to the pistons. A liberal dose of WD-40 freed then up. However I = would try MMO first next time.

Subject: Overheated engine questions

I just picked up an 84' GL which = overheated the last time it was driven.  It has been parked for about a = year.  That's all I know from the PO.  It seems to crank well and sound generally fairly healthy, but it won't fire.  It has good spark, = and fuel delivery at the injectors looks good.  A compression test showed = only 30 psi on 2 cylinders, I'm assuming this is a result of the = overheating.  I have a few questions;
    1) What is the = typical damage from overheating? ( rings, valves?? )  (The heads still hold coolant)
    2) Is it worth = investigating futher into this engine or should it go to the scrap = heap?

Thanks in advance

Matt
