Question about 2.1l main = bearings:
Ken = or Ron or anyone else who rebuilt a waterboxer,
The VW dealer told me 2 different part = numbers for standard main bearings:
025198461A001   Blue dot
025198461A004   Red dot

025198461A  Some nondealer vendors use this part = number,
but doesn't indicate which size.

(I think one is 1/1000 = and the other is 1/4000)
According to Bentley, page 13.53
either one, = blue or red, could have been used originally even on
the same crankshaft.
Apparently one has to match up the red or blue bearings corresponding
to the dots on the crankshaft next to each main = bearing.
So it seems to me, to be sure, one has to buy one blue and one red = set,
and then match them.
Does Vanagain and Bus Depot sell both red and blue, since
your part number ends with the "A", and doesn't specify red or = blue?
Is there a way to tell which size main bearing, 001 or 004, = without
taking the engine apart first? Any info appreciated.

Subject: 2.1l Vanagon Main = Bearings Available!!!

Finally I = got some of the standard 2.1l Main Bearings for the Vanagon.  These things = have been out of stock forever.  I would advise anyone who is even thinking = about rebuilding your Vanagon within the next year to buy a set now as who = knows when I will be able to get more.  The other thing that I am doing = is selling them at my normal price of $55 per set (no price gouging). =  You can order on my web store with the part number 025198461A or just give = me a call.  One set per customer please.  These are German made by Kohlbenschmidt (OE manufacturer for VW).

Thanks,
