I'm with ya on that word hopefully!  After many hours at these, spread out several weeks,
it was pretty much my court of last resort.  (Because the shield is = nearly the exact same
size as the hole below it (a shade smaller) - I felt = less comfortable tapping it out.)
 
Will move on to the woodscrew method, and if that fails - will try drilling = them in half.
 
Thanks everybody!  I'd really like to drive this thing this weekend, the = raceware studs
are supposed to be here tomorrow.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Heating then dousing the heat shields = while they are in the head is an
extraordinarily bad idea.

Soak with a = crud cutter (like WD-40, Bra-kleen, etc) and tap them gently
all around = the periphery for about 2 minutes each. Then use the wood
screw idea.
