when brass distributor drive gear =
gets chewed
up it does not take the steel cam gear with it. This =
damage
happens when the drive shaft under the dist moved up most =
likley when
the engine was turned over because the dist was removed
or loose.
To replace the brass gear the =
engine case
halfs need to be split. I would remove the dist and drive to =
inspect the
brass gear. If just the tops of the brass gear have damage as is =
often the
case then you could clean the brass out as best you can and =
reinstall
the drive. The brass gear will wear in and it will most likely make =
some
noise when first started. Change the oil early and =
often in
the first hours of running
