My question =
Since the gear on the = distributor is shredded, would my cam gear be in
the same condition. Does anyone = have any experience with my problems?
Tom
when brass distributor drive gear = gets chewed up it does not take the steel cam gear with it. This = damage happens when the drive shaft under the dist moved up most = likley when the engine was turned over because the dist was removed or loose.
To replace the brass gear the = engine case halfs need to be split. I would remove the dist and drive to = inspect the brass gear.  If just the tops of the brass gear have damage as is = often the case then you could clean the brass out as best you can and = reinstall the drive. The brass gear will wear in and it will most likely make = some noise when first started. Change the oil early and = often in the first hours of running
