Simple solution to the timing belt problem: replace the belt at the factory = specified interval!  This is crucial = with any "interference" engine, including many overhead cam four and = six cylinder engines, gas and diesel. Not a hard job, if you do it yourself, = and not very expensive either!  = Consider it an opportunity to get in touch with your Vanagon's "inner self"!
