If someone REALLY didn't like you AND you had all of the security gizmo's mankind has ever produced for the vanagon at your disposal, you'd still have your oil filter exposed.  A couple of twists and it is ready to fall off.  One can only be so vigilant and then it becomes paranoia.  My 2 cents.
