One thing I find interesting is that even though this is a list devoted to a machine, an aging and often decrepit machine at that, it is still a vibrant forum fraught with  political struggle, drama, heros and villians, values and history.  One recurring struggle typically pits those who prefer a free and open forum against thsoe who  want to control and censor and make the list fit their personal tastes.  So far, the free-speechers have won this struggle every time...primarily by the force of persuasion, although having wise administrators helps.

Mark - Nope, not at all!  The interesting thing about the List is being
able to see folks trying to sell 15 year old Vanagon parts for 50% of
new value, folks trying to convince others that that are only two or
three tires we should use on our vehicles and that there is only ONE way
of doing things to keep our beasts running properly!

The neatest thing about the List is that anyone can come on and ask a
question about their Vanagon as long as they are not intimidated by the
"wise folks" telling them to "look it up in the archives", criticizing
their spelling/grammar or insulting their intelligence.
