Hi Readers:
Well, I have completed my trip North =
of the 56th
Parallel. Let me tell you, it was COLD!
Had a number of problems with the =
Westy
(84)
1. The front and rear fans as well =
as the turn
signals would intermittently "stop". It was weird. Once, they =
were
working just "tickey-boo" and I pulled into a gas station (had =
to stop
at EVERY ONE, that's discussed below). Put the van into reverse, and I =
lost all
my fans! When I tried to turn them on, I heard a relay click coming from =
near
the fuse box on the far left side of the dash. Anybody have any
ideas?
2. Boy, did we SUCK gas! I was using =
premium gas
too! One time we used fifteen liters to go 70 kilometers. That is less =
than 12
miles per gallon!
3. The van bucked all the way up =
North, but
drove smoothly back to Wiinipeg. Fuel economy was the same both
ways.
4. Blew the fuse for the front fan =
and wipers
once, the wiper motor siezed in the cold, andoverloaded the cicuit. It =
was a
miracle that I found the correct fuses in the local gas =
station!
5. After running at highway speeds, when I slowed =
down to park
the engine ran super rough, with "knocking sounds" and kept =
stalling.
At speed it seemed to work OK. Is this related to the fuel economy =
issues? I had
a tune up done by a specialist shop prior to my trip.
Can anybody offer me some suggestions regarding the =
above
points? BTW: I have ordered my Bently manual from www.germanautoparts.com, =
; and it
is due to arrive January 6 or 7.
Thanks everybody for being there for me, and best =
wishes to
all in the New Year.
An aside: The westy makes a great vehicle for =
wheelchair-bound
passengers. Very easy to transfer from wheelchair into rotating =
passenger
seat.
