Hi All Members,
My van: 84-1.9L, 4-speed, non
ac.
Please help!
It appears that I have a leak in my clutch's hydraulic
line. My clutch pedal lost its resistance and went all the way to the
floor, and engaging into gear was very difficult (multi-pumping of the clutch
pedal to build up the pressure).
I checked the fluid reservoir, the fluid
level was okay. the brake is working fine.
I checked the clutch's
master cylinder, and it is dry.
I checked the clutch's slave cylinder, and
there was brake fluid
everywhere.
Please confirm the diagnosis that I might have a failed slave
cylinder.
If yes, I am new to the vanagon era, please advise how to fix the
problem.
If not, please give me some suggestion.
FYI, I had the clutch
assembly (bearing, pressure plate and disk) replaced ~6mos ago using Sach's
parts by Fast German Auto in Santa Ana.
Reading the official Bentley service
manual, and to my surprise, I learn that VW uses the same reservoir for the
brake and the clutch. If so, if there is any leak in the hydraulic line,
both systems will fail. But my break
is working fine. Hmmm. This is very mind boggling. Please
shred some wisdom to this poor
soul.
Many thanks in advance to all members.
Happy
Thanksgiving.
Cheers, Andrew
