This is also a well-documented problem with the 95-98 Porsche 911 (993). Sometimes happens all by itself, when the car is safely parked in the garage, etc.

FWIW, the suspicion for the 911 problem is delamination of the safety glass.

ObVanagon: Into week 2 with the new/old Syncro, and (knock on wood) no window breakage so far.
