Subject:   What is the best way to work on a VW deisel engine?
In-Reply-To:   <>
Content-type:   multipart/alternative;

I have two spare 1.6's that I wish to rebuild work on.

Is it necessary to get an engine stand to rebuild them? If so what should I look for, brand name or just weight capacity? How much does a 1.6 deisel engine weigh anyway? What are some good sources online for shop tools? How about VW-specific tools (like timing and compression tools)?
