Subject: A question about oil filters. Riddle of the week./
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

A question regarding the oil filters.

I normally purchase my filters from the dealer which cost around $27.00 Aust. These filters arebnranded with the VW Audi Logo and has MHO Germany with the numbers 6740358366 opposite the logo. This filter is constructed with a spring at the bottom of the filter. When replacing these filters I normally half fill them with new oil prior to screwing it home on the filter post.

Ok due to cost I began purchasing filters from a genuine part supplier, not a dealer, here in Sydney Their filters are about 1/2 the price of the dealer stuff and these are branded " Knecht Mahle OC47 ", with made in Austria on the side. Dimensions are the same as the genuine. The only difference is that these filters have a plate set about 30mm or 1inch down the throat of the filter. This plate is quite rigid and appears to be spring loaded. However no amount of persuasion will budge this plate. Unlike the dealer filters I cannot prefill this filter prior to fitting. The plate stops any oil from getting past and settling in the filter body. Apart from this I do not have any other problems

To me these filters seem quite different in their set up. Does anyone have any ideas on either one.
