I have to disagree. VW's own VR6 uses both a mechanical(belt-driven) water pump, and an electric pump. If you did want to run an extra pump on a Vanagon, the best way to do it would be to have it pumping towards the radiator. Probably wouldn't be too terribly hard to install up near the spare tire.
