Subject: Question for Vanagain about 2.1l main bearings
Comments: To: KENWILFY@AOL.COM
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;

I'm getting ready to r&r a spare 2.1l waterboxer. I posted this before, but didn't get any replies. Question about 2.1l main bearings: Ken, The VW dealer told me 2 different part numbers for standard main bearings: 025198461A001 Blue dot (1/1000)

025198461A004 Red dot (1/4000) and different dealers have them in stock. The first question the VW dealer asks when you order the main bearing, is it red or blue?

How does the bearing you sell, part# 025198461A compare in actual size to the VW dealer main bearings? Is it a one fits all main bearing?

The bearing you mentioned that you and also Bus Depot have in stock now has always been available in Canada through Bow Wow or other after-market shops. They import it directly from Germany. The VW dealers in Canada only sell the red and blue original bearings. Does that mean the main bearing that you and Bus Depot and others stock is not the same as the VW dealer bearings, which do cost twice the price?

According to Bentley, page 13.53 either one, blue or red, could have been used originally even on the same crankshaft. Apparently one has to match up the red or blue bearings corresponding to the dots on the crankshaft next to each main bearing. So it seems to me, to be sure, one has to buy one blue and one red set, and then match them.

Could you get me either 001 (blue) or 004 (red) size? Thanks. Harald '90 westy

Finally I got some of the standard 2.1l Main Bearings for the Vanagon. These things have been out of stock forever. I would advise anyone who is even thinking about rebuilding your Vanagon within the next year to buy a set now as who knows when I will be able to get more. The other thing that I am doing is selling them at my normal price of $55 per set (no price gouging). You can order on my web store with the part number 025198461A or just give me a call. One set per customer please. These are German made by Kohlbenschmidt (OE manufacturer for VW).
