Subject:      Instaling an auxiliary battery
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;

Mark,

I'm getting ready to install a aux battery .... I have seen a couple of references in this thread to "notch the steel baseplate of the seat in two spots".

Can't quite picture the notches ...... does anyone have any photos avail ... guess I'm just a visual guy.

Also, would another option be to have the top posts ground down (by a knowledable dealer) and use the side posts?

Lastly ... I have seen a lot of references to various Optima Batteries .. ie referenced here D87, D750 etc. Is there agreement on the List as to the current "Best Choice" optima and whether one can or should use a Deep cycle for the starting battery as well?

Cheers,

Lchase .... humble Newbie 85 Westy GL (still name searching)

Hmmmm.....seems to me that the funny looking yellow top battery that I installed in the well behind the drivers seat of our Westy said Optima on it.

Had a choice of slight modifications to make, either notch the steel baseplate of the seat in two spots (to lay the battery on its side) or cut two holes in the cover for the posts to stick up through (my choice in the end, due to a lack of cutting tools!). No radical moves needed!
