I normally buy 80-83 dead air cooled Vanagons around Texas for about 200-250$ and remove everything I can and still have them rolling. Needless to say they are half way to the crusher when I get them so many parts may be missing or the engine may be mid-car on the back floor disassembled. There is no doubt that I get 200$ worth of parts from them but not always what I need on my next Westy recovery project. (a good running vanagon isn't worth anything in Texas, OK maybe $500.00). I've never found an operational air cooled 80-83 Vanagon in Texas they're all dead from dropped valve seats or a big combination of neglect, abuse or long term storage woes. I grateful for what I can find in the wrecking yards.
