Posting to unfamliar territory here...I have a 78 Westy but am interested in crossing over to the dark, H2O cooled side.

I was wondering if VW ever built a Syncro that had a pop-top but no stove/fridge unit. I've seen evidence of this at vanagon.com where it lists 1/2 campers made in 86 and 87 but I've never seen one or heard of one for sale.

The 78 Westy that I have is great but the stove/fridge/cabinet takes up way too much room. I don't want to remove it because it all works and removing it would devalue the vehicle. I've been considering selling/trading it for a Syncro but I still want a pop-top for sleeping.

So, what are the options? Buy a full Westy Syncro and remove the kitchen equipment? (Yikes! Expensive) But a regular Syncro, a trashed Westy and a Sawzall? (and Band-aids no doubt) Hunt for the elusive 1/2 camper Syncro?

Thanks for any input.

Bob J. 78 Westy Springfield, VA
