Subject: Re: clutch slave cylinder mounting bolts

On my 82 air cooloed, I ended up bending a piece of cooling tin between the slave and the engine compartment, and then going into the engine compartment and inserting a wrench through the bent cooling tin, through the backside of the bracket, and attached to the back bottom bolt from the rear. I then went underneath and used a socket to loosen the top nut. It worked well and was easy then. Mine was so rusted, there was no other way to get to the bottom part of the back bolt. You can slide a wrench through the side of the slave bracket and kind-of get to it that way, but I could not get a good enough grip once I started turning the socket on the top. Anti-seize these bolts on re-assembly.

You have to hold the bolt on the top side of the bracket and the nut on the underside of the bracket to prevent it from spinning. Getting at the bolt on the underside is very akward. There is not enough clearence for a wrench or a socket. Any advice on how to deal with this? >Jake > > >--------------------------------- >Do you Yahoo!? >New Yahoo!
