FWIW. When I replaced my seals a few years back I found the same collection of gunk under the luggage rack.

I have prevented this by using small small pieces of standard window screen fastened to the bottom of the luggage rack via epoxy.

Yes, you have to clean the screen occasionally since it tends to gum up but it keeps all the debris from getting under the luggage rack.

Now, if someone could help me with my part number question!!
