Volvo used to use brass exhaust nuts, then it was copper over steel but It seemed to me that the nuts were copper filled (i.e., clad) rather than plated. Both types worked especially well, although, if I recall correctly, the brass nuts needed to be snugged up once and a awhile. Now that Ford has started to mess around with a good thing, Lord knows what they are using.
