Yup, I plugged it in and it worked. It had the green Tach wire running to a plug behind the dash, then I had to run a wire from it back to the coil and it worked.

So I guess the moral is a) the '84 cluster with tach will fit right in on an '85, and b) i need to figure out how to read wiring diagrams.

Sure is nice to have a tach and working odometer!
