when my wife's miata flunked its smog test due to just-over-the-limit no reading (san fran tests -- all urban tests -- are tougher than rural tests due to all the bloody vehicles therein) the only fix was to get a new catalytic converter. which did the job. nitrous oxide is the stuff they're trying to get rid of. art '82 westy
