Dana,
I installed this Shurflo faucet from West Marine (http://
www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/
10001/-1/10001/26355) in my 87 and it works great. I went through 3
crap plastic VW faucets in 5 years before I gave up on those leaky
devils. The Shurflo doesn't leak and the handle can be installed on
either side of the faucet plus it pivots up and down and out of the
way of the stove/sink lid and it has a nice spray instead of the
hyper set action of the OEM one. (I never used my city water hookup
and will soon convert the city water hookup to a fan powered vent to
exhaust the heat the fridge creates.) I also use a foot switch---a
great addition--- but I chose to keep it unmounted so I could just
pop it into the sink cabinet when I don't need it. The foot switch I
use I got from an electronics place---it is about 3 inches round with
a round button and a flat bottom so it sits flat on the floor. A
couple of points about the install: the hole in the sink top (for the
faucet) is larger than the Shurflo mounting hardware so you need to
find two same-size pieces of plastic that will sit on top of the hole
(that are larger than the hole) in the sink and beneath the hole in
the sink to act as a hole-filler and mounting plate for the Shurflo.
I went to Home Desperate and bought two round white door wall bumpers
in the door dept. They are those round plastic flat bumpers that you
stick to your wall so your door knob doesn't dent your wall. They are
the perfect size and have a bevel on the edge to help water and
grunge from accumulating at the base. Drill the correct sized hole
for the Shurflo in the door bumpers (drill the hole a little off
center so you can get the faucet closer to the sink), apply a little
caulk and the whole enchilada looks factory. I can take some pics if
you like and p-mail them to you---or anyone else that would like
them. Be sure to get the Shurflo that has the switch.
