I'm a fan of various hardwoods. But I just don't have the place to stack up anything right now (nor a sawmill to cut them up currently)

If you are in the Washington DC area and can't find anybody else, please contact Hardwood Artisans. Their shop is down in Woodbridge, and they love getting local trees (sycamore seems to be their current favorite).

And for those of you who have never experience quality furniture construction (I'm just a customer, and have no other ties to them), you should check out Hardwood Artisans <http:// www.hardwoodartisans.com>. In their stores their favorite sales ploy is to pull out a drawer from one of their dressers and climb into and then stand in it.

Nothing cheap. And they'll custom build or stain stuff too (always for a price.) I had some corner cabinets made of mahogany, custom stained with a "cherry" color and shellaced (instead of oil like they traditionally do.) Afterwards one of the owners made the comment that they came out looking fantastic. I was trying to imitate the finish on Petrof baby grand piano I have, and the result was extremely close and certainly complimentary.
