I don't know what Troy is using for fittings, but the use of Teflon Tape should be done carefully.

I'm no expert, but I know that some fittings are meant to "seat". i.e. the tapered cone on this:

is meant to seat in the proper female part. Putting tape on the threads *might* keep it from seating and sealing.
