To further complicate this .... when I started the engine this morning and getting unerway, still on the BLM dirt road, I turned the headlights on "just to check" and they worked fine. Later in the day, I had the satellite radio on and saw another Van (about '76 Westy), flashed my lights using the stalk and heard a buzzing or crackling in the radio as long as the stalk was pulled. Did it twice and thought to turn on the headlights and sure enough, the symptom had returned.

I have the headlights ground at the steel "firewall" just behind them up front. I haven't changed the switch ground but may look into that.

When I installed the aux batter this time I ran a wire from the + to #3 on the fuse block up front to run all the dash "stuff" from the aux batteries. I took this tip from Mark Drillock some time back and AFAIK it is working fine. Other than that, I haven't changed anything I can think of that would contribute to the current anomaly?

From the parking lot at Bryce NP at Ruby's Inn.

Bob .... headed for Kodachrome Basin SP before it gets dark ... uncertain cell connection but plenty of BLM land to camp on over there. An aside: I left my campsite in a hurry this morning after hearing semi-automatic firearm crackling not too far away. About 10 shots in very quick succession.
