Ya think it would have helped? I bet a nickel it would be fouled and useless, so now you have to throw it away, scoop out the guy's mouth and *then* put your nice clean formerly protected mouth back on his...I'd rather get that aspect of it over with without having to agree to it (except in principle, of course). In general I *think* vomiting is a good sign, though of course it's quite an inconvenience at the moment.

Also, I have to wonder if the barrier would make it much more likely that the guy would aspirate (breathe) vomitus, which is an instant recipe for deadly pneumonia -- that's why the surgeons are so serious about having an empty stomach before anesthesia.
