     I have found a better solution to a cable controlled heater valve.
Summit racing has a "Vintage Air" water valve which is electrically
controlled. It has a rheostat type switch and a black box which can be
hidden under dash.  Except for the mounting hole and hooking up 2 wires ,it
looks like it will slip right in place of the stock unit. While a little
pricey at about $100.00 delivered  ,If it stops the hot air flow in summer
it may just be worth it. I am going to double check my factory hot air
deflectors and be sure all stock parts are working first. Come the hot days
of summer I may just step up to the plate and buy one.
    In my 85 I had installed a 2nd valve under the truck and just turned it
off and on as the seasons changed and it worked as well. But having a
permanent fix may just be worth it.
