Just because they are brand new does not mean the threaded stud is pulling out of the pot metal same as where you were with the original mirrors. It only has to pull out a fraction of an inch to loose your "grip".  I think it is a design flaw that was "corrected" when VW switched to the aerodynamic mirror housings.

I have heard of other treatments like adding a rubber washer to the ball/socket area....never tried that....the pinning as described in my earlier email ended the problem for me.  It's Better than new in my opinion.

These mirrors are brand new, and have to be tightened to full spring compression and then some.   Now I can barely adjust them, but any slack in the nut leads to flopping.
