Yup, the son of a hibachi and the Cobb look good. I was interested in getting a Cobb stove, was a toss up between that and the Ecoque (Pyromid).

I'm still interested in making a rocket stove type unit. Something that will burn small twigs etc. The big drawback, as I see it, to a rocket stove is the small cooking area. They are better suited for heating up pots/pans rather than grilling.

One other kinda useful gizmo I have is a smallish Kelly Kettle (http://www.kellykettle.com/) that is works great for boiling water for tea. I just noticed that they have a cooking stove version on the website.

Nice to have all the options considering the range of camping we vanagon owners do. There is no shortage of firewood in the areas I like camping in here on Van. Island and thanks to the dampish climate, open fire bans are usually limited to a couple of weeks in August. I think the Ecoque qualifies as safe to use during fire bans.

And occasionally (ha!), the available firewood is too wet to use so a propane or charcoal grill is handy.
