Subject: WBX Oil Filler Metal Pipe Rust
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8

Hi all.

Maybe it's just the morbid mechanic in me having a good time posting gnarly pics but .... ;)

While doing the cooling system work, noticed my oil fill pipe was quite rusty. image:

I then recalled a poster on thesamba mentioning that his pipe had failed at the flange allowing the engine to dump a bunch of oil. At least that was my understanding. NOT saying that failure is common but some wire brush work, a strip of medium or coarse emery *cloth* wrapped around the pipe used like a rag buffing up a shoe, cleaned it up. A small paint brush can fit in to paint it. I used Zero Rust paint but there's other options.

At the very least, it'll slow the rust down and I imagine it's something a lot of Vanagon owners can do.
