If you're not getting +12 on the coil positive side, then ignition switch
is likely reason.  But before you said you *do* have power to the coil.


If you jumper 12V to the coil positive side that is the same as turning the
key on.  It will even back-feed the instruments.  This can be handy for
testing or as a quick fix.
