Larry, There are a couple possibilities which might explain your wet carpet. One, it could be the windshield washer fluid. Lift the section or flap of carpet over the washer reservoir and maybe you will be able to tell if it has been leaking. If it is only the drivers side that is wet, there is a good chance this is your problem. Another possibility is a leaking windshield seal. Has it been raining alot where you live? This happened to me and the result was a small puddle of water on the drivers side floormat every time it rained. I suppose another possibility would be coolant from a leaking front heater core. I think the best thing to do would be to sop up some of the moisture with a white paper towel and check the color/smell of the liquid. This should give the source away.

Good luck, Pat
